[Spoken by Gamemaster Vespasian] "Greetings Humans, if you are here for the TARDIS game then please assemble along that rope. In a few moments, you will be assembled together in teams of 5, comrades to aid the Doctor. My name, is Gamemaster Vespasian, that is Gamemaster Trajan. Now, first, what is my name? What is my title? What is his name? (pointing to Gamemaster Trajan) And his title. Within minutes you will be immersed into the Whovian world, whoever you were, whatever your role in life was, will be immaterial as your entire role in life is now to be the Doctor's loyal lifeline as he is in a dire situation. You will soon be woven into your own Whovian adventure. Each of you will have a backstory, a personal or family history with the Doctor. Remember that, and stay in character. Some basics on Gallifreyan etiquette- If you have a question for either gamemaster, you will raise your hand. Once I acknowldege you, you will bow your head to me and begin your question with "Gamemaster, I have a question..." Failure to do so will lose points for your team. Does, anyone have a question (test the crowd)? normal You have 5 minutes to remain yourselves, find bathrooms, etc and at X:10 you will be transformed into a cohesive teams working as auxilaries with UNIT. Once you pass through those doors, everyone needs to shift into character. For there, is where your story begins and our game starts. The Doctor is in trouble and worse...well...you will be briefed on that soon enough. I will tell you, that you all need to turn off your phones. There will soon be events that transpire that an income text or call will distract you at the wrong moment and can knock you out of the game. Further, to highlight the danger, anyone caught using one will have points deducted from their team. You have x minutes to form up into teams. You will want members with diverse backgrounds, knowledge of dead languages, mathmatics, history, nuclear engineering, and, by Rassilon, you will need members who can solve puzzles and riddles. If your teams is all youth, you are handicapped. Understood? [Gamemaster Trajan goes into UNIT HQ to change into Brigadier outfit] [at x:10 the GameMasters announce the game is underway and for the teams to orderly enter into Unit HQ. THey are encouraged to move quickly and silently. ] [Unit soldier #1 & #2 stand by the doors. Unit Soldier #1 is at the door outside the room sweeps with a device like a metal detector and barks "Pass!". Unit Soldier #2 is inside the room by the door and will ask if their phone is off. They also bark 'Pass!'. If needed they can respond with "Angels can track us by EM emmissions, turn that damn thing off!" The idea is to be gruff and military and convey a sense of finally getting 'into the game'. (Once all teammembers are lined up, the backstory starts. A UNIT soldier #3? must actually stay outide the door to keep anyone from coming in to spoil the effect. THey will remain out there the whole time.) (some other cool light effect will be shining on the wall behind us) [Vespasian] [Spoken by Unit Soldier #3 or #1] (casually) "The TARDIS brought in a right sorry lot, didn't it." [Brigadier] "These young whelps have no idea what they are getting into. I hope the TARDIS knows what it is doing. (Turns to Unit Scientist #1) Dr. Freemont, any sign of Angels?" [Unit Scientist #1] (looking at some form of scanner on a laptop) "Long range scanners are clear, sir. However, we only have range of 3 kilometers, and Jackson saw some activity to the north just 2 hours ago." [Brigadier] "Well then it is time for action. Dr. Freemont, the cloaking device if you would." [Unit Scientist #1] "Yes, sir. (Then shouting) Everyone prepare for loss of mains and radio. DC should still work." (Unit Scientist #1 and Unit Soldier #3 or #2 then put out the cloaking device. Which is just a blinky multicolored ring that activates if you press the bottom. The cloaking device is set in the 'harness' and the Unit Scientist #1 or Soldier #3 will count off "3 2 1" before turning it on. Unit Soldier #1 must be ready to covertly kill the light switch. If we want more optical effects another NPC could have their flash go off at the same time.) (LIGHTS HAVE CUT OFF. Laptop should glow as well as Vespasians lantern) [Unit scientist #1] (Unit scientist #1 consults with laptop and confirms cloak working) "EM radiation suppress, we should be good to go, Brigadier" [Brigadier] "I think I'll let Gamemaster Vespasian get the auxillaries up to speed." (Vespasian will raise a Galifreyan Lantern, and by glowing lamplight, start the speech.) [Gamemaster Vespasian] Fellow Whovians, you are probably all wondering the same thing, why did the TARDIS pull you out of your timeline and bring you here at this point and place? Well, this is why (holding up a glowing cube) 1 day ago I received this emergency message from the Doctor. He was surrounded by Weeping Angels and, we've discovered, been sent back to 1970. Worse, he is timelocked and even the Guardians of Gallifrey cannot reach him. However, all hope is not lost. In his communicae, he told us that he has a recall device for the TARDIS. He apparentely learned and adapted from his last run in with the Weeping Angels. In the eventuality he is ever tapped and sent to the past without his TARDIS, he can activate the recall protocal via his sonic screwdriver, which he has with him. As clever as the old boy was, it isn't enough. The Weeping angels are aware of the recall and are jamming the sub space band it operates on, but from 2015. He can't get thru to the TARDIS. So the good Doctor has a plan. He has built a counter sub space shunt to destabilize their jammer carrier signal which UNIT is calling the CoSubJam. This will let his TARDIS be recalled to him. He dissassembled the CoSubJam into dozens of pieces to hide it from the angels and gave it to his band of kids with instructions to hand it off to his companions in 2015. He somehow knew all the kids would converge on this hotel on this day. Of course, these kids are kids no longer and have grown up. Some still have their CoSubJam artifacts, and some have handed the CoSubJam on to their kids now. So be wary. They all know to wear this (the identifier) through out 2015 so they can be found. But they also know to be wary of anyone who claims to be from the Doctor, as some of his enemies know he's stranded and don't want him coming back. These kids, these Artifact Curators may ask you for proof of your loyalty or your knowledge of the Doctor, and most likely you will be given a puzzle to solve that only those who know the Doctor can solve. They may even be a tad bit paranoid, so ask nicely. Some Curator NPCs will have multiple peices of the CoSubJam, but an NPC can only give you one CSJ peice at a time. You will have to visit another NPC before going back to the original NPC. I will repeat, your job is to find these people with bits of the CoSubJam, and bring them to UNIT HQ. Now then, What is your quest? Who do you believe in? (the doctor) At this time, I hand you over to UNIT for processing. (Vespasian leaves room to check with NPCs and make sure all are in place, have booklets, know who is upstream and downstream.) [Brigadier] (Looks at Unit Soldier #1) Get everyone lined up, corporal! Group them by 5. And for bloody sake, Issue them proper badges and swear them in. We need that CoSubJam recovered and online! [Unit Soldier #1] OK, everyone in a line, Team Alpha, over there. Team Bravo to my right. (All Unit Personel sorts teams and everyone is issued a badge. This logistics hurdle is on UNIT to sort out. After all badges issued, we swear them in) [Brigadier] Corporal - Swear them in. [Unit Soldier #2] Time for the swearing in. Raise your right hands. Repeat after me. "I will serve to protect the people of Earth, to respect the peaceful denizens of the known worlds, and to do all that I can to aid the Doctor." [Brigadier] Now then listen up, your job is to find these kids, these artifact Curators, solve their challenge and retrieve those artifacts. When all the artifacts are in to HQ, the game is over and the Gamemasters will put out the word for everyone to converge. Our intel is that most of the challenges put to you by the Curators will be timed. You'll need to be quick, smart, think on your feet, and be of unwavering loyalty. There will be riddles, brain teasers, chemistry, calculus, trivia, and moral jepordy. Each team has a captain, he/she will hold the team Herald. Only the Captain of the team may talk to the NPCs. You must stay together. We know that the Doctor told us the codeword to talk to the NPCs is "Do you believe in Angels", with the NPC response being "With eyes wide open". Trust no one without proper code responses. I highly recommend you question any Curator if they know where any of their fellow Curators may be. (Brigadier then shouts) Now then! How you are going to win, is each team will get points for each piece they aquire, points will be awarded by the NPCs for style, staying in character, speed, and honor. Points will be subtracted for phone use, poor behavior, and for being outwitted by the enemies of the doctor. A peice is worth 3 points, SuCoJam instruction cards worth 2. ================================================ Logistical and Gameplay issues [note- all NPCs may award teams points for style, staying in character, cleverness, co-operation. They may also subtract points for using cell phones, or being obnoxious. Oh they have the authority from the Doctor to take peices from you.] NPCs should each know where the 'downhill' one is to be able to point players there and where the 'uphill' one is to report to if the NPC has to leave station. The goal here is to avoid pile ups at any station.) Team Packets - Includes hint card where the first NPC is. Has all the Lanyards w/ UNIT ID. Clue card/hint card. Staff and Herald. Decoy trap - (all NPCs are encouraged to try to trick teams starting on Question 2)- A NPC doesn't respond with the codephrase correctly. Replys with "Definately." If the team engages the NPC, the NPC asks "Prove you are with the doctor, show me a peice of the CSJ." If they hand one over, he flips a card from the Gamemaster stating, they have walked into a trap set by the GI and have lost a peice. Their next NPC is located at X". The NPC also needs a sign for those who successfully avoid the trap that the next NPC is at X. End of game, we send out UNIT to find the teams and bring them back and count up their parts. All UNIT NPCs help count up artifacts. Everyone assembles in the UNIT HQ. The Brigadier explains that the UNIT scientist has discovered that the Doctor has built in redudancy into the CSJ and if we have 80% then it can successfully work. We all crowd aroud the device which has been assembled and the 2m band ham radio tries to make contact. The doctors companion answers in 1970 (one of our wives) and she says yes, we are getting signal thru, Doctor says its going to work. Everybody cheers. UNIT hoops and holars. And the gamemasters issue out planetcards that are tickets to guarantee a slot in Game 2. The winning team will be determined from the scores from all the NPCs and the winning team will be invited to the Pizza party on day 2. Someone tallies up the sheets (Brigadier?) from the NPCs, figures out the winners. The third place team comes forward, receives guaranteed tickets to Game 2, second place gets _____, first place gets TARDIS chain. Expect this to take 10 minutes. After awards ceremony do a debrief - What did you like, what did you not like.
